“Thoughts from the Wilderness…” Devotional 04/11/25

Reciprocals.

No matter where you look and whether you recognize them or not at any moment – they are there. Good and bad. Love and hate. Black and white. Day and night.

We all understand this. Sometime we like to play within the grey area to go back to the contrast of black vs white. We straddle the fence and try to want, or have, both sides at the same time or really to switch back and forth at a moment’s notice.

Truth though is if we are always on the fence we will never experience the extreme of either side. We are torn between two worlds so to speak and we miss out on being a citizen of the one.

That is risky. What is at the extreme end of one side?

Is it cold? Is it hot? Is it fun or is it scary? Oops, recipocals poke up again.

What will it be if we choose, if we dare, to step out and like C.S. Lewis once said, “to go further up and further in.” That is a question we need to ponder sooner than later.

Case in point. I find myself many weekends out in the mountains enjoying nature and what G-d has given to us to enjoy to tickle our senses and captivate our hearts.

Yet that flower or that waterfall does not love me back in return. That car ride and vehicle that served me to get out and spend some “me time” does not care about what I think or strives hard to not to let me down. That car will fail. That flower will fade and that road will deteriorate.

That’s the problem of human hearts steered and focused in the wrong direction. The wrong side of the fence. We jump off the fence for one thing or another within the world thinking it will make us happy or solve our need or problems.

Yet it never does. And it never will.

So we jump back on the fence until another opportunity that we can enjoy – or think we can – and we jump off to pursue it. Chase it down and worship it.

Or we can look to the other side of the fence. Where the grass is truly and forever greener. Where there is no decay. Where there is true peace and true fulfillment.

This is the side that will love you back. That flower as pretty as it is – won’t – yet Yeshua will!

He has loved us first. He wants our hearts and desires (worship) to be His and His alone.

That’s where we will be at true home. True rest. No matter what sort of idols you try to put in His place it just won’t fit.

Sad to say I have tried with many things and my success rate is a fat 0. Failure 100%.

So what are you focused on? You can enjoy some of the good G-dly blessings of this world for He has given us so much – but don’t be fooled – nothing here is as sweet and refreshing as His love is for us.

1 John 4:19 – We love, because He first loved us (NASB95)

Remember that Resurrection Sunday is coming quickly where once-and-for-all Yeshua proved His love even though He already knew us before we were even formed in our mother’s womb….

He is risen!

28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11 (NASB95)
