“Thoughts from the Wilderness…” Devotional 02/12/25

I take two steps forward and I take two steps back… was the start of a song about how opposites attract between lovers. While I agree that there is beauty in being different and seeing a new side of an object or someone different from ourselves, I think we are more like chess pieces. We have a specific role to play and we are being utilized in best way possible by the grand chess player – G-d – though we are not pieces on a chess board for fun but for His will and for His plan on this Earth to love Him and take care of others.

And each of us is different. Much like chess pieces. Different shapes, different paths, different uses with strengths and weaknesses, yet unified to win and to defeat our opponent. Of course the true King on the board is Yeshua who gets the credit along with G-d who is the orchestrator.

(Spoiler alert – He has already won and for His glory!)

Sometimes we might even need to take a step back from moving forward. We may even stumble forward. We sin which pulls us backward YET in the end we win because we are in His hands.

And the icing on the cake is that we know the ending even if we don’t see the final configuration of the board and the pieces because of His word and who He is.

So be encouraged as you are in His great hands.

And He is worth the victory.

Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.  And you will defile your graven images overlaid with silver, and your molten images plated with gold. You will scatter them as an impure thing, and say to them, “Be gone!” – Isaiah 30-21:22 (NASB95)
