“Thoughts from the Wilderness…” Devotional 11/03/24

“I’ve been everywhere man, I’ve been everywhere..,” said the man in black.

Many of us have been around the world or perhaps just around our own block. We have enjoyed cities near or from afar and have been blessed to share travel with our friends and/or family.

From Alaska to the southern tip of Florida, from Hawaii to Portland, Maine – I too have enjoyed a few miles of open road or knots of air space.

Even though I have shared in these blessings to go around the USA and to other countries – I have also slept on concrete floors inside houses being under construction and cold tile and stone within hotel bathrooms in Chicago. The former reason was I ran away when I was a teenager, the later working a decent salary job within the last few years.

The common factor is that no matter where I have been or where I may go next – the L-rd has always been with me. He has not left my side even if I am trying to run away or travel for a job.

He is my constant companion and worthy of my devotion. He is my hope and my shield. He is our provider and care-giver when we don’t deserve it.

And guess what – He does NOT need us.

Psalms 50:9-12 is very clear about this. He has no needs – He, Himself, is His own needs. He is self-sufficient and us – we are NOT.

“I will not accept a bull from your house or goats from your folds. For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.”

He is that kind of G-d. He wants us and He wants us to want Him. How awesome!

He is jealous as well. He wants our whole heart (and mind and soul and strength) in devotion and obedience. Sounds kind of selfish right? Does it? I think it’s sweet too. He, as a Father (and like us), wants HIs/our kids to love Him/us. We don’t love Him like we should (yet) and this is part of our sanctification process.

And this shows His love. So the next time you are sitting on your couch, in your car, a plane seat or any other kind of seat – please be reminded of His love for you and His desire for you to love Him.

Pray for those who don’t yet love Him and that He desires us to be with Him.

Oh, and by the way, please share where and how He has taken care of you in some “interesting” locations and/or situations. Would love to hear all about it.
