Inquiring Minds 09/04/24

A thought exercise…

Watching the Chosen S3E1 a thought, really a question came to my mind.

Jesus already selected a tax collector named Matthew (Matthias) so why when Judas explained that he was not a fighter but had certain financial and other skills did Yeshua select him?

For most of us in a small group like they had, they would really need only one individual to fill the “money” role.

Could not the tax collector also be the treasurer?

Could not the treasurer also be the tax collector?

So why two?

Maybe to test Judas (…lead us not into temptation yet He does allow us to be tested) by the things he knew Judas had experience…?

Or perhaps to see what Judas would be willing to do. Jesus did ask (in the TV show) if Judas would be willing to do hard things for Him.

Or maybe to also challenge, humble, and strengthen Matthew as well seeing what Judas would up doing with the betrayal given he has a very similar skill set.

I am curious to hear your thoughts noted below?

  1. Yes, I think it made both of them realize that God was testing them.Woould they continue to do the sin, or would they realize that they are Forgiven, & be accountable?!

    • Yeah, we are all I believe given a brief moment or moments to think before we do. Yet Jesus still loved both in His own way the way each needed and even knowing their faults.
