The Love trinity.
No this is not from a Jerry Springer or Geraldo Rivera show. It is not some liberal mantra to share love in an unbiblical way.
And of course, I am not wanting to overstep or add to what the true Trinity is of the Christian faith.
I want tonight to explore a different concept of three factors of my version of the lower case t-rinity.
Holiness at the top.
Forgiveness at either the left or the right.
And willingness at the opposite part of the triangle.
Let’s start with “holy”.
We aim high (or should) to be Holy. The Bible calls us to be holy as He is holy. It’s a very tough high bar to achieve yet we are called by Him to try. We seek to be like Him not to honor ourselves with what we can achieve but to honor Him as children wanting to follow in their parent’s footsteps – to be more loving, more caring, more whole and more perfect.
Of course, we will never achieve our L-rd’s level of supremacy and authority yet as we grow more in holiness – we grow closer to Him – as He is so holy and perfectly pure that we are able to grow nearer to Him only as we are being sanctified.
This is love – to be Holy as He is Holy – to grow more in love with Him and to honor Him out of that love.
Next up – willingness – you can’t truly love without action. Your head leads (or should lead) your heart or so they say. I do find truth in that. My former pastor Steve once told me that love is a feeling and a devotion. You stick it out even if you feel like you don’t love that person today. It’s commitment.
It’s dedication.
If you love the L-rd, your willingness to serve Him should be paramount. Your willingness to sacrifice should be foremost and your willingness to love Him should be the utmost.
And finally – forgiveness – yep! We will fail Him. We will let Him down. We need that forgiveness to prompt us and continually feed the other two sides of the triangle. We need forgiveness to challenge us to love Him more in time. We need forgiveness to start over when we fail and give us the strength when our willingness fails.
And of course at the center and that wraps these all is love. Love for Him.
So let’s focus on love and how to embrace willingness and forgiveness as fuel and anchors for our quest to be holy as He is holy through loving our Savior all the more.
1 Peter 1:15-16:
15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (NASB95)
