“Thoughts from the Wilderness…” Devotional 07/25/24

Preparation.

Are we prepared? I know I am not but I need to be me and hopefully can say want to be.

I have thought about the number 40 in terms of Moses. The first forty years of his life, I think, he was learning and being prepared for what was to come after his murdering a fellow Israelite and fleeing to Midian. He also (for the next part) drew close to G-d and became a better man for it.

While we don’t know all the details of his relationship with G-d, I want to assume that he became very reliant and reverent to Him. Maybe even a bit humbled and delighted in the blessing of his opportunity to be near the Holiest.

Similarly we also see the Israelites were being prepared in the desert by learning and trusting in G-d before their entrance into the promised land.

For me, my first forty years was very much selfish and very much I am my own.

As I age pass this “over-the-hill” moment, maybe I too was being prepared for this next stage of life…

I certainly hope so.

I need to yield to Him with trust and obedience.

What is your next stage?

What are you (or have been if you know) being prepared for?

Review Matthew 25 about the foolish virgins and how they were not prepared for the bridegroom’s arrival.

He’s coming…..
