“Thoughts from the Wilderness…” Devotional 07/01/24

Today, I want to start writing fairly often I hope what I am considering as a daily expression of love and thoughts about and/or for our L-rd and His people.

I am going to call this, “Thoughts from the Wilderness”.

Today’s thought from the Wilderness – 07/01/24

I have because He gives

I want because He desires

While on my knees this morning, I was reminded that we need to remember that only G-d accepts those who come to Him and even they have to do it His way. Please see Leviticus 10, and 16:1-2 regarding Aharon’s sons Nadab and Abihu. The best place to be is at His feet honoring Him.

This makes sense as we stop for a moment and reflect on those two statement above.

We have because He gives. We, in of ourselves, are nothing and especially nothing without Him. He not only gave us our life but our gifts, abilities, senses, emotions, strengths, weaknesses (if by only allowance), as well as our nature toward certain aspirations. So the things we see, taste, touch, and smell are all His gifts from His grace. These are tangible.

Any tangible item is from the Creator of all things materially and immaterally. Why He chooses to bless us with these items, I don’t yet fully understand but I do know it is from His love for His children and we are His. He gives so much – we deserve so little.

And now for the intangibles. We want, we crave, we seek…. We have this internal desire to want more. This can be a mis-appropriation of a longing or desire to fill what only He can fill, but the nature to want, I believe, is from Him. Think like this, a loving father wants to give his child a toy, a gift from his love to his child. G-d is no different. He desires to give us good things. Romans 12 talks about this. Jeremiah 29 as well. He is out to help us not harm us and desires to do us well. He wants us to want. He allows us to have these intangible feelings to want (and to need) as a refection of HIs own nature.

We need to desire the things of Heaven and to be with our Abba and not with the things of this world.

So today remember that we have because He has loved us first and continues to love us in so many tangible and intangible ways. He is THE reason why we have what we have, who we are, and the blessing and honor to know HIm. Thank Him today.

Colossians 3:2 – “Set your minds on things that are above, not on earthly things..”
